Five sensed king

  

Asian elephant and African elephant are the two major types of elephant we presently have.  Asian elephants are very big than usual elephant. Dense hair protected them from freezing temperature of ice age. At the end of ice age mammoth’s era came to end. On the process of evolution we got our elephants. African elephant is much bigger than Asian elephant.  Asian elephant weigh about 3000- 5000 kgs. For African elephants both male and female have tusks but for Asian elephants only male have tusks.

Pregnancy period of elephant is about 22 months. The weight of new born is about 90 kilograms. Mother elephant feed their baby for 5 years

It is not exaggerate thing if we say elephants are the parents of the Indian forests. An average sized elephant plants about 10-18 lakhs of trees on its entire lifespan through their dung. They are the nature made green engineers. They consume about 150 - 200 kilos of food per day; their menu is full of green plants which includes seeds. Only 60% of the food gets digested, remaining contains undigested seeds, partially digested bark of trees. This undigested food makes the forest. Knowingly or unknowingly elephants are doing this. Elephants travel a lot in search of water. Their instinct guides them for their journey for water. They migrate not only for the water but also to get a perfect mate. The path in which elephants travel is called as elephant corridors. During their migration they can smash any kind of barriers that interrupts them. They can walk over farm land; crush the huts which are on their way. This is the main reason for human-elephant clash.  

Mostly, female elephants lead their herd; other elephants follow their leader. We named leader elephant as MATRIARCH.  A herd may contain even hundreds of elephant based on the potential of leader elephant. Male elephants leave their herd at certain age they unite only to mate.

At summer season herd of cow, deer suffers a lot because on that season plants on land will dry. Only trees remain green, height of cow and deer is not enough to get on tree but elephant don’t suffer that much to get food from tree. This is a strange event happens in forest that is,  elephant breaks branches of trees and they eat little and leave the remaining if any herbivore animal is behind them. This is how they behave at scarcity. Particularly they break only dense trees which have more branches. 

They conduct funeral for dead elephants not only for elephants they even mourn for any animal found dead on their way. Elephants make their steps carefully if any small creature cross their way they try not to hurt them. If they feel threatened will smash everything on their way. 

Elephant’s regimes have shrunk because of our greediness. We made tea estates, they lost their home; we made electric fence, they lost their life. We loved their tusks and let their life at risk. Without elephants forests will become desert.
